VALPOI: Social activist Hanumant Parab on Tuesday filed a criminal complaint against Deputy Superintendent of Police Sagar Ekoskar and Police Inspector Prajyot Phadte at the Valpoi Police Station for the alleged unprovoked assault and violence.
Parab in his complaint stated that he along with around 150 farmers from Pissurlem village in Sattari taluka, have been facing immense problems due to siltation of their cultivable fields and on account of the water bodies ravaged by the illegal mining activities in the village.
“On March 11, around 50 farmers including men and women mostly from the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste communities were present at a site at around 10.30 am when suddenly the policemen arrived in a bus and two jeeps led by PI Phadte,” he stated.
He further said the farmers questioned the police on their arrival to which the PI replied saying that the mamlatdar too was coming to the site.
Parab said, “I was taken to the police station and after seeking permission to contact my wife to inform her to pick up our child after school, DySP Ekoskar arrived and grabbed my phone. I sustained a cut after Ekoskar suddenly punched me on my left eye. The DySP later along with PI Phadte assaulted me with kicks.”
