MARGAO: A group of agitated parents returned home disappointed on Wednesday after their wards could not get admission in St Pius X High School at Orlim on Wednesday after their application for admission to Std 1 did not find favour with the school.
The school management, however, expressed its helplessness, saying that admissions for Std 1 were carried out strictly as per the department circular on admissions.
The parents contended that they have nowhere to go at this late stage and felt the school management ought to have intimated them about the restricted admissions to Std 1. A parent Rohit Ferreira told the media that their children have been left out after the school gave admission to only 48 students. “The school management informed us about the decision only yesterday. We are in a fix. We would have explored other avenues if we were informed about restricted admission a month ago”, he added.
School headmistress, Sr Ritty, however, pointed out that the government circular mandates the management to admit only 48 students to Std 1. She said the school has strictly gone as per the department circular, adding that those left out could seek admissions in neighbouring schools.
When her attention was drawn to the fact that the pre-primary school had given admission to more than the intake capacity of Std 1, Sr Ritty said, “The pre-primary school is a private institute and we are guided by the department circular which cap admissions to Std 1 to 48 students”, she said. Replying to a question, she said the school has given admissions to every person from the village, whoever had asked for admissions.
