PONDA: Even as BJP Marcaim Block Chief Pradeep Shet distributed uniforms to students of Government Primary School (GPS) Talaulim to mark Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s birthday, the parents questioned the purpose of such activity when the future of their children in this school was uncertain.

The parents have been protesting the presence of a cellphone tower in the school premises for a long time. Unhappy with the inaction of the government authorities over removal of the cellphone tower from the school premises, the parents had even threatened to pull out their wards fearing radiation due to the tower.

One of the mothers, expressing her plight due to the presence of a cellphone tower in the school, questioned, “What purpose would these uniforms serve, if our children get affected by the radiation and something untoward happens?”

“You gave us uniforms. But if you want our children to get education, please ask Chief Minister to shift the tower from this school,” she said.

Although, some of the parents have decided to withdraw their children from GPS Talaulim, they are also worried about the fact that there is no school in the vicinity.

Even the students are wondering where they will study, once pulled out of the school from the upcoming academic year. It may be recalled that a couple of months ago, the parents and another school nearby, had demanded that the cellphone tower should be shifted out of the school since it is injurious to students’ health.
