Parents will be equally held liable for minors involved in accidents: Vasco PI

VASCO: Vasco PI Kapil Nayak on Tuesday said that parents will be equally held liable for minors involved in accidents and warned that they will be liable for action under the amended Motor Vehicles Act.

Expressing his shock over the two fatal accidents wherein two women were killed by vehicles driven by minors without valid driver’s licence in the Vasco Police jurisdiction within three weeks, PI Nayak said that the police will not take such cases lightly and will initiate stringent action as per the amended M V Act.

Stating that these are not accidents because the drivers knew that they had no driver’s licence and still drove vehicles in a rash and negligent manner and caused deaths of innocent people, PI Nayak said that if any minor is found riding or driving vehicles without a valid driver’s licence, they will be booked under Section of 336 of IPC for endangering human life along with their parents and the vehicle owners, irrespective who was responsible.

Cases will also be registered under Section 304 IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in such incidents, he added.

PI Nayak said that parents and vehicle owners must be careful and vigilant as they will fix liability of minor involved in accidents onto them.

He said that sometimes children are given two-wheelers to ride by their parents or by vehicle owners despite having full knowledge that they don’t have a licence to ride two-wheelers or drive cars.

Vehicle owner held for allowing minor to ride his two-wheeler: The Vasco Police on Tuesday arrested vehicle owner Sanjay Naik, 23 of Velsao Pale for allowing a minor to rider his two- wheeler which involved in an accident killing a woman at New Vaddem, Vasco.

On the other hand, the 16-year-old boy, who was detained by the police, has been sent to the Apna Ghar, Merces.

According to the police, Naik was riding pillion when the accident occurred. A case has been registered against Sanjay Naik under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC.
