PANJIM: The director of the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media (DCSCM) sent a clarification late on Friday night about the Sancoale incident.
The DCSCM, in a press release, said members of the Sancoale Church Fabrica Committee went to pluck coconuts in the Sancoale Church property, close to the site of the old church on Friday morning.
The director said there have been police complaints filed by both the clashing parties and that he was sent a video clipping of an individual called Chandrashekar Vast, who stated that “the Parish Priest of Sancoale Church led a mob of a hundred people to the site, who took law in their hands and threatened to kill him and others with him.”
“Having personally contacted the Parish Priest of Sancoale, Fr Luis Alvares,” the director said, “that the parish priest told him over the phone that he did not lead any group of people anywhere, but that he was called by his parishioners to where the tension was already in progress; and that once he reached there, he only asked Vast: ‘Why are you interfering in this matter?’ For the rest of time, he said, he kept quiet.”
