Parishioners of Majorda revived the unique tradition of celebrating the nativity of Mother Mary

Parishioners
of Mother of God Church, Majorda revived their rich old tradition of
celebrating the nativity of Mother Mary uniquely by decorating boats. The boats
are traditionally decorated with palm leaves and flowers and placed outside the
church. Parishioners from Majorda, Calata and Dongorim- Majorda participated in
this tradition after two years owing to Covid 19. It took the parishioners a
month to build these boats.

As per the legend, a group of seafarers was travelling
across the sea when a sudden storm destroyed their boat. However, through the
intercession of Mother Mary, the seafarers were saved. After reaching the
shore, they brought a statue of Mother Mary and flowers to the church.
