Disappointed at the ‘failure’ of the multi-level car parking at Santa Monica Jetty the State government has entrusted the job of preparing a Parking Master Plan for the Panjim city to the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (PSCDL).
The project of Panaji Parking Master Plan will be a part of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan for entire State.
Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) has awarded the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) to Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) for work of preparation of Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the state of Goa and also for parking master plan for Panjim city.
UMTC has bagged the contract for Rs 2.84 crore to carry out both studies, IPSCDL CEO Swayandipta Pal Chudhari informed Herald.
He said the work of preparation of parking master plan for Panjim city envisages that parking facilities development model shall be explored to be self-sustained for the purpose of firming up IPSCDL’s requirements in respect of development of project facilities.
Chaudhari says there is no point developing parking facilities without carrying out proper study.
”We need to know exactly where we require more parking facilities, how many vehicles, the peak time etc,” Chaudhari stated.
The CEO also disclosed that the consultants have been told to include intelligent transport management system, which will help commuters to know where exactly is parking vacant besides authorities would also know the exact number of vehicles in the city at that given time.
“We have also asked consultants for automated parking fee machines and exact locations for their installations besides the amount of fee to be charged as per the size of the vehicle,” he said.
The consultants will also identify PPP potential of some selected parking areas, he said.
The Corporation of City of Panaji has tried introducing pay parking to reduce traffic; however, the plan hasn’t worked. The contractor has duped the CCP of around Rs 40 lakhs.
