PONDA: Lack of enough parking spaces in Ponda town is leading to motorists parking their vehicles on the roadsides, which is causing traffic congestion.
If this was not enough, growing number of vehicles plying on the road and unauthorised bus stoppages are forcing traffic to move at a snail’s pace inside the town, especially during peak hours.
With the situation turning from bad to worse, local resident Vishal Fadte has now urged Ponda Municipal Council for creating of more parking spaces. The only location that has substantial parking space is the basement of Ponda market. But apart from that, there is hardly any parking space in the town.
There is shortage of parking space especially at PWD office road, PMC garden, State Bank of India, the stretch from Dada Vaidya Chowk to Upper Bazaar, near Almeida School, Varkhandem, Tisk Ponda, near Maruti Temple amongst other locations. Vehicles parked at both sides of the road can cause mishaps.
“Ponda is facing traffic congestion as people visiting the town park their vehicles along the roadside. There is a need for more parking spaces as existing ones is not proving to be enough,” another local resident, Narayan Naik said.
Ponda town is in dire need of more parking spaces, with residents and visitors alike struggling to find a spot for their vehicles. It’s a classic case of too many cars and too few parking spots. The situation has become so severe that one can consider himself as lucky if a suitable parking space is found.
