MAPUSA: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary and Goa desk in-charge C T Ravi on Friday said that the right to declare party tickets to candidates rests with the party’s parliamentary board and urged aspirants to refrain from making any statements on their candidature.
Ravi who arrived in Goa to participate in the party’s North Goa district committee meeting, said there is no harm if candidates express their willingness to contest elections but they cannot declare their candidature. They are only aspirants and not party candidates, he said.
Ravi said that the BJP central board will take decisions and declare the names of candidates based on their winnability and ground work.
When asked how the party will strike a balance between new and old party workers, BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said that although many new people have joined party, it doesn’t discriminate between new or old. Also no BJP worker can announce self-declared candidature for Assembly elections.
“We have a system. Once Assembly elections are announced, the party declares pradesh election committee which decides on the tickets. Winning is one of the criteria among other things,” he said.
Tanavade also asked aspirants not to waste their time on declaring their candidature. BJP has not grown because of its leaders, instead it has grown on the strength of sincere party workers, he said.
On the occasion, Ravi released e-book on yoga programme held in 40 Assembly constituencies to celebrate international yoga day. Tanavade, North Goa district BJP president Mahanand Asnodkar and social media convenor Rupesh Kamat were also present.
