MARGAO: The Paroda residents on Saturday accused the local MLA of promoting alleged illegalities in the village.
They revealed to the media persons, how a hillock has been cut in the village, where construction material is already heaped up apparently to construct houses.
Gabriel Fernandes said that the work is being carried out at a frenzied pace particularly during the curfew as not many people are moving around.
He added that the MLA is backing this project and recalled earlier Sarpanch Inacio Tereza disclosing at a gram sabha that the MLA had questioned him when he had inspected the illegal hill cutting.
The villagers sought help from the environmentalists and NGOs to help them fight this illegality and lamented that the local panchayat and the government authorities are not taking any action despite several complaints made.
The villagers also showed how the water path has been diverted to cause land filling of the agricultural land and lamented that the illegality is happening barely 500 metres away from the residence of the local MLA.
The villagers showed the complaint letters made to the Town and Country Planning Department and Deputy Collector in the month of March and regretted that till date no action has been taken on their complaints.
