MARGAO: The Paroda gram sabha on Sunday has adopted a resolution opposing Mopa and demanding that Dabolim airport be retained as Goa’s only civilian airport.
Gram Sabha members expressed strong views that the second airport at Mopa will be a disaster not only for people of South Goa but also to whole of Goa. Members demanded that government should stop going ahead with the airport at Mopa and called for Dabolim’s up-gradation.
The gram sabha also adopted resolution demanding Special Status for Goa.
The gram sabha members strongly felt that there was urgent need for special status for Goa as the state has been losing its identity with large influx of people from other states. It was also expressed that special status for Goa will facilitate the government to frame laws for the benefit of locals and to safeguard the land which is becoming scare.
Sarpanch Kharangate informed the gram sabha members that the panchayat body had submitted a proposal for panchayat ghar, market complex and that details of identified land to have been submitted to the BDO for action. However he stated that the BDO has asked the panchayat body to get NOC from the land owner.
