MARGAO: The Paroda gram sabha on Sunday decided to approach the Sports Department for allocation of land to construct a panchayat ghar for the village at Guddi. The proposal to approach the Sports Department for the land was mooted by former sarpanch and present Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias who attended the gram sabha.
Need of a panchayat ghar for the village has been an issue for quite some time and in fact the area was identified for it but it did not materialize as the area identified was a low lying paddy field and there were objections to filling it up to construct the panchayat ghar.
When the matter came up again at the gram sabha, Clafasio suggested that he could approach the sports department to allot around 500 sq mts of land to construct the panchayat ghar and the same was accepted by the villagers.
Incidentally, sports department has acquired land in the village next to the Damodar Higher Secondary School at Guddi where a football ground has been developed. The panchayat ghar is now proposed to be constructed near the ground.
An issue of illegal construction that was raised by another villager was discussed briefly and dropped without taking any decision as it was considered to be a family matter.
