MAPUSA: Parra gram sabha decided not to allow the installation of electric poles and passing of high-voltage power lines through the village fields.
It may be recalled that last month over 40 farmers and locals came together and stopped the work of installation of electricity poles in the fields to lay a 33 KVA line from the Thivim sub-station to the Nagoa sub-station carried out by the electricity department.
The meeting began with the panchayat secretary Rui Cardozo reading out the minutes of the previous gram sabha and then the budgetary provisions for 2019-2020.
Sarpanch Delilah Lobo said that a budget provision of around Rs 2 crore has been made for the construction of a new panchayat ghar.
The locals stressed the need to stop the work and asked what other action would be taken besides writing to the electricity department.
The sarpanch said the panchayat members will sit in the fields if the electricity department makes any more attempts to install the poles in the fields. She assured the locals that she would again write to the Electricity Department about the high tension lines and also arrange a meeting of the farmers with the concerned officials.
