PANJIM: Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday again took a dig at NGOs and social activists.
Hinting at NGOs who approach the courts for government’s wrong doings, Parrikar, speaking at the function to lay the foundation stone for the 2 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant at Patto, instructed the authorities to comply with the necessary formalities required to be completed before the execution of work to avoid any legal complications.
He added that the State government has initiated steps for the conservation and protection of the environment.
The project undertaken by the government at an estimated cost of Rs 11.18 crore will treat garbage on scientific lines for its disposal. The sewerage treatment plant at EDC Patto Plaza was initially constructed almost 25 years ago. However, it was not operational. After the completion of 2 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant project, it is planned to divert the sewage of Mala, as it will reduce the load at the Mala sewage pumping station.
The proposed plant is based on the SBR (Sequential Batch Reactor) technology which can give a biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) less than five, as similar plant at Tonca which is giving BOD as 2 to 4. Besides, the water from the new proposed plant can be used for gardening, flushing and other purposes.

Alliance with MGP will continue
PANJIM: Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday said the alliance of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) will continue for the 2017 Assembly elections.
“We already have an alliance with MGP and it will continue in 2017 election,” Parrikar said on Monday.
He said the seat sharing details would be decided later.
BJP had fought the 2012 Assembly elections in alliance with MGP. The party had won 21 seats and MGP had won three.
MGP has in the recent past threatened to break the alliance over a couple of issues, which includes seat sharing. MGP wants to contest from over 15 constituencies in the coming polls, which BJP is not agreeable to.
