MARGAO: Saying that development in Benaulim is all messed up for want of planning, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that people will soon witness planned development in the constituency.
Speaking at Benaulim on Sunday after launching the website of the Benaulim panchayat in the presence of local MLA Caitu Silva and Sarpanch Royla Fernandes, the Chief Minister said that work on the underground cabling and the Colva road will start anytime from now.
“Orders have been issued for the laying of underground power cables in Benaulim constituency. The work may commence anytime from now. Similarly, work on the Colva road and other internal roads should start before the election code comes into force,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that the government has given the nod for a sewage treatment plant and sewerage network for Benaulim constituency, adding that the government will issue some orders before the election code comes into force. “I used to believe that there’s all round development in Salcete, but a round to the taluka shows a messy situation for want of planning”, he said.
In his address, the Benaulim MLA lamented that not all the Panchayat members were present for the website launching function. He appealed to the students to make good use of the tabs provided by the government.
In her address, Sarpanch Royla Fernandes said the panchayat aims at computerising the administration, right from the stage of inward of a file, which will help citizens to track their file by sitting at homes.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister was felicitated at the hands of Sarpanch Royla, while Benaulim Panch member Xavier honoured MLA Caitu Silva on the occasion. MLAs Subhash Faldessai and Benjamin D’Silva were present.
