CURCHOREM, MARCH 20
Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar has assured to expose the government in the forthcoming assembly regarding the proposed ore dumping activities at Panchawadi.
Parrikar was addressing residents at the Bhagwati temple hall in Panchawadi, after listening to their grievances in connection to the project.
Shiroda MLA Mahadev Naik, panchas Leena D’Costa and Keshav Naik, Fr Lawrence Rodrigues and others were among those present at the meeting.
“The government ought to have taken the local people into confidence before launching the project. The people of all communities have opposed the project from the beginning and hence, the government should never have gone ahead with the project,” said Parrikar.
He also mentioned that the State has received a negative image in the world due to frequent cases of drugs, crimes and illegal mining.
MLA Mahadev Naik alleged that an ex-MLA along with his workers have been pushing for the project. “They were more interested in their selfish motives rather than the welfare of the people,” he said.
“The proposed project is being constructed near the Mhaisal dam, which provides drinking water to the people of Panchawadi. This water will get polluted due to the mining activities,” said Naik.
Leena D’Costa, Keshav Naik, Fr Rodrigues and other also spoke on the occasion.
