“The most important aspect is use of water to create energy. We have Western Ghat where we can have low intensity low size projects which don’t require environment clearances,” he said while addressing an interactive summit on ‘exploring energy frontiers’ organized by IIT Bombay Alumni Association in the capital on Sunday.
The chief minister suggested that the projects could be of smaller volume generating two mega watts power whereas in the next three years, the country can add power up to 30,000 MW to its grid through hydro electric stations all over. “Probably this power will be generated at a place where it is consumed so you don’t have to put thermal power stations at high altitude,” he said.
Zero power consuming house
The IIT has constructed an eco-friendly house model where the consumption of electricity is almost zero. Parrikar said the State government can display this model during IFFI and Exposition of St Xavier. The State has also offered to construct five such houses so that the real time difficulties can be known.
