PANJIM: Applauding the infrastructural work at the Captain of Ports (CoP) Panjim jetty, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) could be considered for MPT and fishing jetty projects.
“We should take GSIDC as consultants for developing the MPT jetty and fishing jetties. The upgraded jetties will boost tourism and river navigation,” he said after inaugurating the reconstructed CoP jetty on Monday.
Built at a cost of around Rs 16.40 crore, GSIDC had undertaken the work of demolition and reconstruction of CoP jetty about a year ago. The construction of a terminal building at the jetty will be completed in the second phase.
The fully-equipped jetty is designed as a passenger berth to carry a maximum vessel capacity of 4500 tonnes dead weight tonnage, and is provided with 50 cylindrical rubber fenders and another 50 D-type rubber fenders.
Fitted with all safety measures, it is equipped with three tanks for firefighting/supply of water to ships, and tanks for bilge and sewerage.
A specific mention was made of light poles fitted with LED lamps. “It has longer burning hours, reduced power consumption, dimmability, day light energy saving and CO2 emission reduction in comparison with HID lamps. The running cost of LED fixtures is considerably less resulting in approximately 86 percent reduction in the electricity bills,” a statement said.
