PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar charged the Congress with trying to sabotage the poll process.
“There were attempts to sabotage the election which need to be investigated. Certain issues I have confidentially written to the ECI. If there is no action within 7 days, I will make those documents public,” Parrikar told a press conference on Wednesday. The Chief Minister hailed the efforts of the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) Goa in detecting and taking action against the violations. “The election officials were diligent and alert and their detection was very good, but attempting to sabotage the election process is a serious issue,” he said demanding action.
Parrikar said some Congress leaders, including Goa Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho, were going around like ‘goondas’ in the city. “If I was not the candidate, I would have asked police to arrest them. The way she (Coutinho) was roaming around the city as if she owns Panjim. We have filed a complaint with police. Let police take action against the arrogant Congress workers,” he said, adding that the opposition leaders had violated the circular of ECI that bans leaders from outside the constituency to camp in it during the voting process. He also cited some ‘bogus news’ being circulated against the BJP and other violations 48 hours before the voting.
