Parrikar govt marks two and half years

PANJIM: The Manohar Parrikar led Bharatiya Janata Party government completed two and a half years of its tenure on September 9, even as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar returned to the state from a 10-day foreign tour.

September 10 is also the second anniversary of the mining ban imposed in the State by the government.
In the past two and a half years, the government’s major political achievement has been its victory in both Lok Sabha seats. On the governance front however, the government has still not been able to restart mining, or even finalise the Regional Plan 2021, promises that it had made to the people and stakeholders.
It was on September 10, within seven months of the BJP led government coming to power that it imposed a ban on mining, following the Justice M B Shah Commission inquiry report which exposed the Rs 35,000 crore illegal mining scam.
The government suspension was followed by Supreme Court ban on mining in Goa in October. After a 18 month lull, the ban was finally lifted on April 21, 2014. But now the state government is yet to withdraw it ban order.
