MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai on Wednesday said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would never have become Chief Minister of the State without blessings of the Church.
He was responding to the statement of GVP chief Mickky Pacheco that the campaign by religious bodies in the 2012 assembly elections was not responsible for the parivartan regime taking over in Goa. “Although Mickky’s statement is with an intention to seek an entry into the State cabinet, he must remember that Manohar Parrikar who heads the government today would never have been Chief Minister without the blessings of the Church”, Vijai told the media on Wednesday.
He said that Mickky’s statement is the height of ungratefulness and he seems to be a willing victim to the time-tested BJP tactic of using a minority community politician to throw muck at a minority religious body.
The Fatorda MLA also condemned threats received by eminent cardiologist Dr Francisco Colaco, who has been consistently opposing fascist and communal elements and their attempts to gain foothold in Goa. “I have always been saying that this LS poll was Mission Salcete II and just like 2004 (during Mission Salcete I) we are seeing victimization of secular individuals and the police unwillingly to do their bit. It is unfortunate that even before the results are out, the lumpen elements associated with the ruling party are showing their true colours. Imagine what will happen in the unlikely event of their god father gaining power at the Centre”, he said.
Vijai said a video clip of Sri Ram Sene’s Pramod Muthalik making derogatory remarks against me and questioning my Hindu lineage has suddenly gone viral on the net, saying all these are ominous signs and Goans should be alert and united against such terror tactics.
He pointed out that in this election some individuals/prominent non-BJP politicians were threatened with cases and action under the Anti-Corruption Act and made to contest and focus on specific areas to divide minority votes.  “Some were forced to support the ruling party’s candidates in their assembly segments. But the results will prove that these individuals are politically irrelevant and their overt and covert support to BJP will be a cause of embarrassment to the ruling party in the future”, he added.
