PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, who once espoused their cause in their battle against the alleged illegalities committed by DLF Limited in its construction of a real estate project at Reis Magos, have now said they “can’t help them” after they have come to power, the Human Rights Defenders have alleged.
Addressing a press conference, Advino Fernandes of the Human Rights Defenders who has taken up the cause, said that the permission given by the Town and Country Planning Department given to DLF should be revoked.
“The construction licence has been obtained by providing false information and on the basis of a wrong plan. Based on this it should be revoked,” Fernandes said alleging that DLF has claimed Nerul comunidade land as their own and wrote to the TCP department saying they could use that land for expansion of the road.
“When in the opposition, Manohar Parrikar offered us all support and even had instructed the Porvorim police to allow a group of five of us to venture into the property for inspection. Today he is silent on the issue. Dilip Parulekar who earlier came with us during the protest now made a phone call to the village panchayat asking them to renew their (DLF’s) construction licence after it was revoked because of protests by the villagers,” he said.
“If Manohar Parrikar can now intervene and ensure that the real estate company does not bulldoze its way over the villagers, then he will be our god,” Fernandes said.
They have filed an application before the Chief Town Planner seeking that there be an inquiry into the matter.
