PANJIM: Former Chief Minister and Union Defence Minister Late Manohar Parrikar was awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously on Monday at the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
The award was presented by President Ram Nath Kovind and was received by Parrikar’s son Utpal on behalf of his family and the people of Goa.
The President also presented four Padma Vibhushans, seven other Padma Bhushans and 61 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2020. The Padma awards had been announced in January 2020 but the ceremony was not held due to the Covid pandemic and thus the awards were presented on Monday.
Among the dignitaries present were the Vice President, Prime Minister and Union Minister for Home Affairs.
Tributes poured in across the State praising the late Parrikar.
