PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has promised a garbage-free Goa by December 19, 2015, the next anniversary of Goa’s Liberation, and assured to take freedom fighters on board for the development of the State.
He was speaking at the Goa Revolution day function at Azad Maidan, Wednesday.
Making a specific reference to the use of plastics in day-to-day life by people, Parrikar called for refrain from using the same. He said plastic carry bags for short-term usage leads to plastic litter all over the place degrading the environment and ecology.
Parrikar said that the contribution of freedom fighters towards the freedom struggle has been immense. Freedom fighters should now supplement the Government efforts to emancipate the living conditions of the people. He also assured that the job issue of freedom fighters will be solved by next year by providing jobs to all waiting dependants.
Goa Governor B V Wanchoo appealed to citizens to create a positive outlook by refraining from opposing every good thing that government thinks of taking up.
“I appeal to the people to create a positive outlook and refrain from opposing good things which the Government is contemplating. Government seeks cooperation of the people to ensure that development takes place at a fast pace,” the Governor said.
He said that the Government’s efforts to bring about higher progress should receive whole-hearted support and helping hand from the people, particularly enlightened citizens.
