Parrikar to meet Modi next week

PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week.
Parrikar will attend the third meeting of the ‘Council for Trade Development and Promotion’ to be chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu.
“I will be attending the meeting called by Suresh Prabhu on January 8. The Centre, State governments and industry representatives will discuss ways to boost the country’s exports,” Parrikar said.
“During my visit I will meet many people, including the Prime Minister,” he said, refusing to disclose whether any specific issues will be raised.
It is likely that Parrikar may take up the ongoing Mhadei river water diversion issue with the Prime Minister. BJP national president Amit Shah has already intervened and held a meeting of BJP leaders from Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra, following which Parrikar agreed to hold bilateral talk with Karnataka on sharing water for drinking purposes.
The letter created much unrest in Goa and Karnataka, and Karnataka Congress MPs have raised the issue in the Lok Sabha, which is currently in session, seeking the Prime Minister’s intervention.
