The Mormugao Port Trust came in for a severe criticism for the second day in succession from the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party over its plans for shifting Khariwado Jetty, extending coal handling berth and four-lanning of the road.
The leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar even went to the extent of demanding transfer of the MPT chairman, from the Centre, for his anti-Goans policies.
‘For the first time I have heard any MPT chairman criticizing the Chief Minister of the State,’ Parrikar said adding, ‘He has to respect the chief minister, be it anybody.’
Parrikar urged the government to demand the Mormugao Port Trust chairman’s transfer from the Centre.
‘The Opposition is with you on the issue, let us see how he removes the Goan fisherman from Khariwado. How he dare say he would kick the people fisherman from Khariwado jetty out,’ he said before continuing ‘you cannot take the people of Vasco for granted,’
Parrikar claimed that if the MPT chairman is speaking of the security at the Khariwado than how would he justify the theft of 12 lakh litre diesel from the MPT.
Mormugao MLA Milind Naik earlier criticized the Mormugao Port Trust for not agreeing to setting up of the new fishing jetty at Baina.
He said if the fishing jetty is shifted from Khariwado there is no other place to carry out the business if the connectivity to the four-lane road is provided.
He also criticized the Mormugao Port Trust for plans to extend the coal handling jetty to berth no 7 claiming it would create large scale pollution.
Naik urged the government to take people’s view into consideration before granting permission for the same.
