The terrorist attack in Uri has not only hurt the nation but
jolted the State BJP.
In wake of the attacks, reports say, Prime Minister Narendra
Modi’s gave a mouthful to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and asked him to
concentrate more on borders rather than Goa.
Well, if the reports are true it could be a major blow to
the State BJP unit, which is already in a dilemma ahead of 2017 Assembly
elections.
With just three to four months remaining for polls, the BJP
has been struggling to sort out the MOI tangle with the BBSM going all out
against the state government.
Not only this, the State RSS has also backed the BBSM on the
issue of MOI.
Now, the BJP was looking at Parrikar with hope to sort out
the issue.
Besides the BBSM and MOI issue, the BJP was looking for
Parrikar’s guidance also on formation of alliance with the MGP.
While the BJP and MGP say they are committed to alliance the
core issue of seat-sharing is still to be sorted out.
With Modi’s diktat, it is highly unlikely that Parrikar
would be able to frequent Goa at least as much as he did in the past.
Sources in the BJP, however, are optimistic that there would
be no such issues.
A few of the BJP officials, who Herald spoke to, reject the
reports, saying there is nothing like that.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar also says there is nothing
like than and there wont be any effect on MGP alliance or otherwise.
He said BJP is confident that their alliance with MGP will
continue for the 2017 election. “We have been in alliance since last five years
and it will continue even in future. There is no question of discontinuing with
it. Both the parties are like minded and believe in working for the people of
Goa,” he added without naming Parrikar or Modi.
However, top BJP leaders say, if Parrikar cant come the BJP
and MGP leaders will meet in Delhi.
“New Delhi is not far away just 2-3 hours flight. The BJP
and MGP leaders can go anytime for meetings and also Nitin Gadkariji is also in
Delhi,” said an official, who did not want to be named.
On the crucial MOI issue, the BJP leader says, for the party
the issue is sorted and nothing more will be done.
