VASCO: Acknowledging instances of lethargy and laziness within the police force, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Saturday also insisted that people residing in colonies, buildings and houses should take added safety and security precautions in their homes.
Parsekar was interacting with media persons when he visited the Vasco police station along with Power Minister Milind Naik and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, to take stock of investigations into the double murder at Vasco in the wee hours of Friday.
Stating that the double murder had shocked the State, Parsekar said he had sought all information from the DIG and IGP regarding the progress of police investigations into the case.
“I visited the Vasco police station as I wanted to personally visit the crime site and assess the information gathered so far. Going by the pace of police investigations, I am confident that the police will solve the case within next three-four days,” said the chief minister.
Responding to claims of laziness and lethargy within the police force, Parsekar said: “There are allegations against the police that they are lazy and lethargic, which is true and the police should shun this attitude.”
Parsekar was, however, quick to point out that this laziness and lethargy did not apply to police investigations into the Vasco double murder case, but added that lapses in other police investigations would be rectified.
The chief minister went on to insist that people also had the responsibility to ensure necessary safety and security measures in their homes.
“People staying in colonies, buildings and houses should also take precautions by installing CCTVs in their flats and houses. When people buy homes costing lakhs of rupees, they should also install CCTVs by spending some extra thousands of rupees,” said Parsekar.
“Those staying in colonies and housing societies should appoint security guards and the amount should be shared among residents in the colony or the building.”
“Residents should not only rely on the police for their security. However, I will address the shortfalls and lapses in the police department,” said Parsekar.
