PANJIM: Toning down its stand over the chief ministerial candidate face for the upcoming Assembly election, BJP on Thursday said the decision on the next Chief Minister, if the BJP forms the government will be taken after the results.
Speaking to some journalists, on the sidelines of the BJP party’s core committee meeting, BJP State president Vinay Tendulkar however clarified that the polls will be fought under the leadership of Laxmikant Parsekar. But he may or may not keep the job post elections.
“BJP will contest these upcoming elections under Laxmikant Parsekar, but post elections the elected candidates along with the sangh will jointly decide the CM candidate as per their choice” Vinay Tendulkar told reporters.
“The BJP, barring one to two states in the country has never declared their chief ministerial candidate before elections. I have never said before that we will change the CM face but post elections the sangh and MLAs will jointly decide their choice of CM,” he added. If the BJP forms the government that is.
When asked whether all current sitting MLAs would be given ticket? Tendulkar said “A few sitting MLAs may be two or three might be denied ticket this time to contest the upcoming elections scheduled for 2017 stating that BJP has already begun the process of short listing candidates for assembly elections” refusing to name the onces likely to be axed.
” We will place all the inputs before the party’s Central parliamentary board which will finalise the list by January”, he said.
Further stating that once the code of conduct is announced BJP will start announcing its candidates one by one. Before that the entire probable candidate list will be judged by the Central Parliamentary board committee and also by 14-member election committee.
BJP has also stated that it is hopeful of an alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) stating that BJP has not broken the alliance and in politics anything can happen, and there might be a chance that BJP might go with an alliance with MGP in the coming elections.
However, BJP President Vinay Tendulkar has not ruled out on him contesting elections stating that “If the party asks me to contest, I am ready to contest from anywhere”.
