MARGAO: Asserting that the rotation of posts at the Panchayat bodies has hampered development, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday said that election of panchayat polls on party lines will curb instability and the musical chair games at the grass root panchayat bodies.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of ‘We Care’ film festival at the Chowguleg College, Margao, Parsekar said that election of panchayat members on party lines will stop the rotation of the post of sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas amongst the members. “What’s presently going on in the panchayats is just rotation of the post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch every six months and a year. We have found that the post of sarpanch is rotated amongst five persons. I am of the strong opinion that holding election on party lines will curb this phenomenon,” Parsekar said, when asked to comment on the opposition brewing amongst the elected panchayat representatives on plans to hold Zilla and Panchayat polls on party lines.
Earlier, after the inauguration of the film festival, the chief minister said a lot needs to be done by the government and the NGOs to reach out to the special children and handicapped persons in the state. “The government and the NGOs are taking care of only a few thousand special children. We have to reach out to around 14,000 special children and persons in our State,” he said, while complimenting the NGOs for the rendering yeoman service for the cause of special children in Goa.
The chief minister further said the Goa of his dreams will be fulfilled only if every Goan stands on his own legs and become independent.
