PANJIM: In a rather strange outburst, BJP has raised the bogey of Congress messing with Manohar Parrikar-led government in Goa in case the UPA won at the Centre.
“Congress government (Centre) is known for playing dirty games… BJP has experienced it during 2005 when Congress with the help of Governor pulled down the BJP government, soon after coming to power in the Lok Sabha elections,” BJP leader and Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told media persons on Friday afternoon, despite all their confidence of winning the Lok Sabha polls at the Centre.
Parsekar was speaking while responding to leader of opposition Pratapsing Rane’s statement during party meeting on Thursday, wherein he had told the cadres that after forming government at the Centre, the BJP-led government in Goa would be replaced with Congress-led government.
“Congress is dreaming of pulling down the stable, popular BJP government if they win both the seats in Goa…Congress party leaders have already alerted people about their intentions,” Parsekar stated.
Cabinet Ministers Atanasio Babush Monserrate, Francisco Mickky Pacheco, Pandurang Madkaikar and Digambar Kamat had resigned from BJP-led government in early 2005 leading to the fall of the government. They then joined the Congress.
Parsekar also argued that like the general elections, parliamentary polls in Goa would see a historic turn out, as people are frustrated and angry with Congress in Goa and UPA government at the Centre.
Parsekar repulsed criticism that BJP does not keep its promises by asserting that the party has fulfilled almost 80 percent of its election promises. He said the government has disbursed nearly Rs 570 crore to over 1,50,000 beneficiaries of social welfare schemes like DSSS and Griha Adhar.
