PANJIM: On the eve of counting, party offices across Panjim were abuzz with activity, and supporters as well as volunteers were confident of a victory for their party.
Office bearers, including supporters, were seen at Goa Pradesh Congress Committee’s (GPCC) head office in Panjim, while most office bearers and volunteers had turned up at the BJP headquarters and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office.
“The mood in the GPCC office was very upbeat. There were supporters and volunteers who came to the office and the mood was that Congress will form the government. All the supporters have high hopes for tomorrow,” Sunil Kawthankar, GPCC Chief Media Spokesperson, said.
BJP student leader Manguirish Usgoankar, who was present at the BJP office, said, “The mood is bright here, all the supporters and volunteers are confident of a victory and are excited about counting day. A lot of volunteers gathered in the office and we also had an election agent meeting. BJP is confident of forming the government.”
The AAP office had a number of volunteers who expected a clear victory for AAP. “The volunteers gathered today and we held a small volunteer meeting to check out the preparations for tomorrow’s counting. The party is confident of a win,” said AAP Panjim candidate Valmiki Naik.
Contrary to the cheerful atmosphere in the Congress, BJP, AAP offices, the mood at the GSM office appeared subdued with hardly any supporters. GSM President, Anand Shirodkar said, “Today no activity took place and some volunteers gathered at my colleague’s office that is also a part of GSM to discuss tomorrow’s planning.”
But the scene was different at the MGP office with supporters and leaders gearing up for victory rallies and party volunteers distributing shawls and caps with the party symbol. “All winning candidates will have a victory rally,” said MGP General Secretary Lavoo Mamledar.
Taleigao strongman Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate also made arrangements for victory rallies in Tiswadi and has sought permission for a rally in Panjim.
