CANACONA: With Lok Sabha elections a mere two months away, the Canacona Congress MLA launched a door-to-door campaign of party workers and supporters from Palolem in Canacona, on Friday.
Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, in the presence of local and State level office bearers flagged off the chalo panchayat, chalo ward and door to door campaign to garner support for the Congress at the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The campaign was kicked off from the touristic village of Palolem on Friday evening by distributing handbills listing the failure of the present government.
Addressing a well attended meeting, Fernandes exhorted the party workers to visit all the households in the jurisdiction of the seven panchayats in Canacona taluka and elucidate to the voters and throw light on the work the Congress party has done in the recent years for the development and progress of the country as well as the inherent failure of the present State government.
Fernandes also took the opportunity to oppose the CRZ 2019 notification saying that it would bring land sharks from all across the country who would gobble up the entire coastal villages which have coexisted with nature for hundreds of years.
“The Congress party is opposing this notification tooth and nail as these land sharks will deny access to the beach for not only our fishemen brothers but all of us,” Fernandes asserted.
Those present were GPYC President Adv Varad Mardolkar, GPCC General Secretary Janardhan Bhandari, GPCC Secretary Mahadev Desai, Agonda Sarpanch Pramod Faldesai and others.
