MARGAO: The three MPs from Goa on Thursday inaugurated various works at Margao railway station and laid foundation stone for various works at Margao, Tivim and Karmali railway stations.
Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik, MPs Narendra Sawaikar and Vinay Tendulkar inaugurated passenger amenities and laid Foundation Stone for various works in a function held at Margao station on Thursday.
Tendulkar congratulated the Konkan Railways and said that they do and would keep doing work for the benefit of the people.
Sawaikar said that Kokan Railway is lifeline of Goa now and the connectivity keeps increasing. “I congratulate KRC for establishing rapport with passengers and Goans,” he said.
Shripad said that these works under the Tourism Infrastructure Development Scheme were taken up by KRC when he was the Central tourism minister. He also said that rails have developed the country and committed his support to the railways and KRC.
The works related to Tourism Infrastructure Development at Margao, Karmali and Tivim stations in view of promoting tourism in Goa, Ministry of Tourism, the Government of India has released the fund of Rs 25 crore. These works include various works like construction of public building with tourist arrival center cum reception center and parking building at Margao and Tivim Stations.
Foundation stone has been laid for the works of capacity augmentation of Margao-Majorda section, in which one new island platform and a loop line will be constructed at Margao station with an estimated cost of Rs 44 crore as a upgradation of amenities to improve the quality infrastructure and amenities. This will de-congest Margao Station, and also reduce the detention of trains in this section.
An ambitious project of 180 KWp on-grid solar power generating system at Margao station will be installed with a fund of Rs 1.81 crore from Sawaikar’s MPLAD fund. Provision of platform surfacing at Thivim Station at a cost of Rs 1 crore has also been started with the funding from Tendulkar.
The MPs also inaugurated the provision of Butterfly Platform Shelters (Platform-1 & 4) and Modified Half Round Shelter (Platform-4) at Margao Railway station.
