CANACONA: A group of women from Patnem, a village beside Palolem Beach in Canacona got together to clear the garbage which was lying on Patnem Beach and road side, recently.
The garbage mostly consisting of plastic carry bags, bottles, and other discarded waste material was hand-picked, collected and sent to the garbage treatment plant, at Dumane, for further processing.
“With lot of stress given by NGOs and other organisations on keeping one’s surroundings clean, many locals are now seen undertaking cleanliness initiatives on their own to get rid of garbage menace. This is a good sign for Canacona,” said Jack Fernandes, president of NGO “Goenkar”, whose members are in the forefront to keep Canacona clean and green.
