Calangute Sarpanch Laxman Parab inaugurated the new pavement at Shree Shantadurga Temple and Holy Cross Chapel, here, in the presence of large number of devotees and villagers.
Others present on the occasion included former sarpanchas Joseph Sequeira and Albert Fernandes, former deputy sarpanch Ana Marie D’Souza, Panchas Subhash Salgaonkar and Sneha Salgaonkar and Shree Shantadurga Temple Committee members.
Palyekar offered prayers and sought blessings for the work at the Holy Cross Chapel and Shree Shantadurga Temple, Naikka Vaddo, Calangute.
He later broke the traditional coconut to throw open the new pavements in and around the Holy Cross Chapel and Shree Shantadurga Temple premises.
The floor has been given a new look with interlocking tiles for the stage area, pavements along the temple and the chapel and surrounding areas. 
The estimated cost of the expenditure for the works done by the Calangute panchayat is Rs 10 lakh. The panchayat has also installed lights at the temple premises. 
Besides the temple and chapel works, the Calangute Panchayat also carried out works on internal roads in every ward of the village. 
The Dongorpur to Dharwadkar Hospital road work has been done with estimated cost of Rs 7.5 lakh, while new roads have been laid in Gaura Vaddo (East & West) to the tune of Rs 60 lakh, which includes culverts and drains. 
A drain to take care of the monsoon water has been laid along the Naikka Vaddo road at an estimated cost of Rs 7 lakh.
Speaking to Herald, Sequeira said the Calangute panchayat has done work on roads and drains in a planned and systematic manner considering the infrastructural needs of the village and villagers. 
“A footpath from St Alex Church, Calangute to the Bandodkar statue at Umtta Vaddo, Calangute, has also been proposed and we intend to begin the work very soon.”
“We have also proposed to put up TY CFL lamps on the linking road named after Dr Francisco Leao Pinto for the benefit of motorists and pedestrians making use of the new road,” Sequeira said.
“Besides, we have also proposed a market complex which is in final stages, a bypass road from Agar Vaddo Kidnian to Cobra Vaddo, a Children’s park cum parking behind the Ronil Resort and hosts of other projects for the benefit of the Calangute villagers,” he added.
