MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday warned the commercial establishments and citizens of disconnecting the power and water supply if they fail to pay the arrears. Two recovery teams deployed by the civic body commence the drive to recover the taxes at the door steps.
Lyndon Pereira, chairperson of MMC said that the civic body has begun the drive of recovery which is amounting close to Rs 20 crore.
“Two teams have been deployed at the door steps of households and business establishments to recover the outstanding,” he said.
He further said that the civic body is very much serious with regard to recovery of the arrears and it has been decided to initiate action against the defaulters if they fail to pay the taxes.
“We are planning to write to the Public Works Department, besides Power Department, to disconnect the water and power supply if the commercial establishments and households fail to pay the arrears,” said Lyndon.
He also said that POS machines will be used for the payments from October 1.
