PANJIM: A delegation of Pilerne Citizens Forum led by Adv Yatish Naik called on Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) seeking that he declare the hearings that were conducted by the Town and Country Planning Department as null and void.

CEC has now referred the matter to Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti asking him to look into the matter.

“We met Chief Election Commissioner and brought to his notice how the government began the rectification process of the Regional Plan and was holding hearings through the town and country planning department and that the government was continuing with the hearings and giving assurances to village panchayats based on those hearings even though the election code was in force,” Yatish Naik said.

“We told him that we petitioned the office of Chief Electoral Officer Kumaraswamy with a detailed memorandum asking him to stop such hearings and to declare all hearings held after the code of conduct came into force as null and void. But the latter part had not been done,” Naik added.

“He immediately asked Navti to look into the matter and to see to it that whatever is necessary is done. He has promised to look into model code violation,” Yatish Naik said.

Pilerne Citizens Forum had earlier complained to CEO saying that given that Chief Town Planner was giving assurances to the various villages through the hearings it was a violation of the poll code. They now want that those assurances be cancelled.
