MARGAO: Tension rent the air on the Eastern bypass at Arlem on Saturday evening following the death of a 74-year-old pedestrian after he was knocked down by a car.
As the pedestrian, Vasu Talekar, a retired police head constable succumbed to injuries, an irate mob smashed the window panes of the car. The pedestrian died on the spot.
Margao PI Harish Madkaikar said the police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver of the Kerala registration Duster car. The car, PI Madkaikar, said was proceeding to Arlem from Gogol.
Replying to a question, he said the ill-fated car has been towed to the police station, adding that the police would soon place the accused driver under arrest.
The police are investigating.
