Assistant Superintendent of Sada Jail, Bhanudas Pednekar, who is allegedly known for converting the Sada jail into a shop where luxuries can be bought, and Colvale Assistant Superintendent, Chandrakaknt Harijan were also present when the assault took place and were seen in the CCTV footage.
Sources in the jail informed that it was Bhanudas who instigated the under-trials to create the chaos demanding their things back.
“Bhanudas is known for all the wrong things in Sada jail like supply of all these articles to the inmates. He is also politically well-connected,” said a guard, speaking to Herald on condition of anonymity.
“While Superintendent Melvyn Vaz, jailor Krishna Usgaonkar and other jail guards were suspended for being present while the assault took place why was Bhanudas and Chndrakant spared” the guards asked.
Sources also said that the duty book immediately went missing after the incident and they suspected Bhanudas’ hand in that.
“The four guards suspended were the key people who had raided the Sada sub-jail and seized mobiles, and other things from inmates, which had not gone well with the Assistant Superintendent Pednekar,” they said.
Further, they say, the Human Rights Commission as well as the Inspector General of Prisons must clearly see the CCTV footage, to see who were present during the assault.
They also questioned why Bhanudas has so far not been suspended for articles which were found in under-trials bag like mobiles, drugs etc.
“How were the inmates allowed to leave the Sada jail with these thing and where did they come from?” they asked.
“Why has there been no action on the Sada jail raid so far? Is the IG Prisons also involved in hushing up the case? they asked.
