All Goa Government Pensioners’ Association today held meeting of its members to discuss related issues, at Goa Caritas hall.
Assistant Director of Social Welfare Santana Fernandes spoke about various schemes offered to the senior citizens to facilitate better living.
The day-long annual meeting was participated by hundreds of pensioners. While addressing the gathering, Fernandes said that senior citizens are given the privilege of 50 percent travel concession in bus, railways and air-fares.
“The department has so far issued 35,000 identity cards to senior citizens to avail the benefit,” he added.
The association members were also told about the ‘day care or recreational centers’ that offers range of programs for senior citizens.
Besides, nearly 75,000 elderly people are enrolled under Dayanand Security Scheme through which, a member secures Rs 1000 per month. Government pensioners is however not entitled for DSS, Fernandes said.
