CUNCOLIM: Mokim Councillor Penzy Coutinho has been elected unopposed as the chairperson of Cuncolim Municipal Council, on Friday.
Post fell vacant after the resignation of outgoing Kiran Naik as chairwoman.
It is learnt that Penzy will hold the hot-seat for three months and then will make way for Succorina Coutinho. It is learnt that ruling members of the Council have an unwritten pact to rotate the chairman post among all the six female councillors. Penzy becomes the fifth chairperson in the last four years.
Meanwhile, on Friday morning, Director of Municipal Administration had convened a special meeting of the council to elect new chairperson. Since there was only a single nomination paper, returning officer Rohit Kadam declared Penzy as the new chairwoman.
Penzy told media persons that with help of local MLA and BJP government, she would pursue the pending developmental works. While eight ruling councillors were present for the meeting, four of the opposition councillors did not attended the meet.
