CANACONA: Concerned citizens met Canacona deputy collector on Tuesday against backdrop of allegations of people coming into Goa through the State border, despite the government sealing the borders with neighbouring States on account of COVID-19 scare.
A delegation of local youth consisting of Sandesh Teleikar, Janaradan Bhandari, Samrath Bhagat and others met Deputy Collector Pritidas Gaonkar to bring to his notice that a Karnataka native has come to Canacona taluka from Manipal in Karnataka two days ago.

Sandesh Teleikar bitterly complained to the deputy collector that one Ramesh Shet who was in Manipal for almost a month has crossed the Goa border and has come into Canacona two days ago.
Teleikar insisted on a proper enquiry by the deputy collector over the lapse on the part of the administration in sealing the State borders in view of the rising number of cases in some of the districts in Karnataka.
On coming to know about the arrival of the Karnataka native, concerned residents of Ponsulem where Shet is staying in a rented premises, informed the authorities, and the health authorities in Canacona have placed him under home quarantine.
It was brought to the notice of the deputy collector that Shet crossed the Polem border in a van which came into Goa with fruits from the neighbouring State.
The deputy collector assured the aggrieved local youth that a proper enquiry would be initiated and action would be taken so that such lapses don’t happen in future.
Samrat Bhagat also complained to the deputy collector of people from Karnataka crossing into Goa on vehicles transporting vegetables and fruits and requested to put a system in place at Polem check post to make sure that these people go back to their home State after delivering the essential goods and not stay in Goa.
