VASCO: People from different walks of life along with some students on Sunday gathered in front of the Mormugao Municipal Council and lit candles as sympathy towards the sexually assaulted minor girl.

The silent protestors were holding placards stating “We want justice, save girl child, arrest the culprit and stop rape and other atrocities against the girl child”. Young as well as old were seen participating in the gathering.

Speaking to Herald, some parents urged other schools not to hush up even a minor sexual harassment incident to protect the name of the school.

They further said as the school staff and management are more worried about their school name, the student has to face the implication of their casual attitude.

“What is needed is to educate and make the children aware to be vigilant and act accordingly,” said a parent.

The parent also urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to amend the children law and make it strict in the forthcoming assembly session.

“Only harsh punishment to all the rape accused and those who sexually molest the children to some extent will bring the crime rate down,” added the parent.
