SANGUEM: The Government Administrative building at Sanguem which is visited by people from all over the taluka being the headquarters, is in dire need of having a lift.
What is surprising is that when this four-storeyed building was constructed some years ago, a provision was made to install as lift, but it was never done.
It is indeed quite pitiable to see senior citizens struggling to climb the various floors to go to the office where they have some work. What is worse is that the staircase is not friendly for the disabled or differently abled persons.
A few years ago, following demands from the people, the Public Works Department prepared estimates to install the lift after carrying out a thorough inspection. However, the estimates have remained only on paper and people continue to suffer.
This building houses the offices of Mamlatdar, Block Development Officer, PWD (Roads & Bridges), Water Supply, Civil Supplies Inspector and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services.
The worst hit are the people visiting the Animal Husbandry vet clinic who have to climb three floors with their pets.
