MARGAO: Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik on Saturday took pot shots at his political adversaries on Saturday, even as he distributed additional relief to the flood-affected residents.
He has reassured the victims that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation will rebuild the compound walls damaged by the floods at the time of construction of the Sanvorcotto bridge.
The relief was distributed to the victims at a function held in Cuncolim today, with the MLA claiming that a total of Rs 7,000 has been distributed to each of the flood victims. “From day one, I had taken up the cause of the flood victims for enhanced compensation. Even Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had promised me that additional relief will be distributed to the victims from the Chief Minister’s relief fund,” he said, and lamented that certain persons misguided the people to take a morcha to his office over the issue.
Replying to a question, he said this is perhaps the first time that flood victims have received Rs 7,000 each as relief for the damage. He said the CM has promised him to rebuild the damaged compound walls through GSIDC. “The Chief Minister took the decision to rebuild the compound walls since no amount of compensation would help rectify the damage. The reconstruction will take some time as the government intends to take up the work at the time of the Sanvorcotto bridge construction,” he said.
