MAPUSA: Minister for Ports Michael Lobo has called upon the people living along the coastal belt to cooperate with the police to curb crimes.
“We all have to work together to curb crime. The people living along coastal belt should inform the police if they find any suspicious person moving in their locality,” he said.
Appreciating Calangute police for “keeping the situation under control” under their jurisdiction, the minister alleged that the police in other parts of the coastal belt do not curb crime.
“Situation in Calangute is under control since police are taking action to curb crime. But similar actions are not being taken in other parts such as Anjuna, Vagator or any other. May be drugs are not available there. However, the recent deaths of people at Sunburn reveal that drugs are available in that vicinity and this matter needs to be taken seriously,” Lobo said.
He informed that the Baga murder case is under investigation and the accused has been arrested. However, he said, the motive of murder is yet to be ascertained. “If this case is also related to drugs, then, we will crack down on drug peddling,” Lobo assured.
The minister said that foreigners coming to Goa are involving themselves in pity crimes to stay back for a longer time. “Once they get involved in crime, police register case against them. The case goes for hearing in the court, but in the final stage, the accused and the victim compromise, due to which the court releases them. This is how they manage to stay in India,” he explained.
