Pepper Spray Incident at Bicholim School Leaves 11 Students Hospitalized

A concerning incident unfolded at a renowned higher
secondary school in Bicholim Taluka, where 11 students were unexpectedly
afflicted with respiratory issues. The incident occurred on Thursday, prompting
swift action from school authorities and medical personnel.

All affected students were promptly transported to the
Bicholim Government Hospital after they complained of breathing difficulties.
While six students exhibited improvement after receiving initial medical
attention, the remaining five were transferred to the District Hospital in
Mapusa for further care.

Preliminary findings point to the utilization of pepper
spray as the likely cause behind this unfortunate event. Police have
successfully identified four students believed to have used the pepper spray.
However, due to their status as minors, law enforcement is unable to take
direct action against them. Consequently, the police have communicated with the
school administration, urging appropriate disciplinary measures, including
suspension, against the students responsible.
