MARGAO: Residents of Per Seraulim, Benaulim and parts of Colva suffered constant power fluctuations on Monday.
“Since 3 am this morning there has been no supply to Seraulim, Colva, and Benaulim as a cable has snapped. The electricity department doesn’t have a backup line, which is mandatory for all underground cables. There has been no power for nearly 24 hours,” said a Colva resident.
Locals tried to contact the electricity department all evening as most of the residential houses were plunged into darkness post sunset.
“Schools have just started. We have to make preparations before sending our children to school tomorrow, but our fridge has not worked all night due to the power outage. This is just one such problem. I hope the power returns as we have trouble sleeping in these conditions without a fan,” said Francisca Fernandes of Benaulim.
When contacted, electricity department officials said the fault was isolated to a section of houses and not the entire area, and that they were looking into the technical matter. Meanwhile, the disaster management cell said they will take up the matter with the authorities if power was not restored by Tuesday morning.
