PANJIM: The State government has directed its corporations to become financially ‘swayampurna’ (self-sufficient) by opting for Central funds and aim to reduce dependency on loans and reduce unwanted expenditure.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday held Budget review meeting with the chairmen and heads of around 35 State-run corporations.
During the meeting, the government has also directed corporations to cut shot its unnecessary recruitments. Speaking to mediapersons post meeting, Sawant said that strict directions have been issued to them to keep control on expenditure and focus on how to become self-sustainable.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s plans to shut down non-performing and non-profit making corporations in near future to reduce undue financial stress on the government.
“There are several corporations such as Tribal, Forest Development, Horticulture, which are eligible for Central grants. However, they are not going for it,” he said.
He also pointed out that several corporations are also not focusing on recovery of loans and on increasing the revenue receipts.
“Public Finance Management System Rules will have to be followed mandatory henceforth,” he said.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister also made detail presentation on the Budget to the Cabinet ministers, wherein they were asked to submit inputs and their vision for their respective departments.
